Almonds

Almonds are also called queen nuts due to their properties and all the positive effects they offer to the human body. They are the fruit of the fruit tree almonds and in Sweden they have a similar meaning during the Christmas holidays as the mistletoe has in our country. We know sweet and hot almonds: there is no need to explain why sweet almonds are most used in gastronomy. The hot ones have found application especially in medicine as a component of medicines for asthma, cough or bronchitis. Almonds have high levels of potassium, magnesium and vitamin E.

You can consume almonds in the classic way, but if you are not a fan of crunchy goodies, try ground almonds. You can spread almond butter on toast, bread or mix it into sweet pastry recipes. The playful Swedes diversified their consumption of almonds by hiding one almond in a rice pudding. According to tradition, the lucky one who found her in his portion was waiting for the wedding the following year.

Benefits of almonds and their effect on health

  • A rich supply of vitamin E promotes healthy aging and prevents Alzheimer’s disease
  • Magnesium reduces the pressure exerted on the blood vessels and at the same time promotes a healthy flow of oxygen and free radicals, which act as oxidants in the body – they damage the body’s cells and cause them to age.
  • magnesium contained in almonds also reduces heart damage
  • Flavonoids in conjunction with vitamins C and E have antioxidant effects
  • already in 1/4 cup there is a large amount of protein and fiber that have a positive effect on your digestive system

Cashew

We owe the spread of these nuts to the Portuguese sailors. They imported cashew nuts from Brazil to Mozambique and India. Later to Asia and faraway Africa. Few people know that cashew nuts are actually the fruit of a fruit tree. Apples grow at the end of the cashew, which is the fruit of a tall western kidney tree. The apple is rich in vitamin C and has a sharp taste. Its consumption is common only in some parts of the world – for example in Africa or Brazil. There are irritating resins and acids in the nuts of cashew nuts, which is why cashew nuts are very often sold pre-peeled. Aggressive substances from shells are used, for example, for the production of wood varnishes.

You can take the consumption of cashews as a healthy substitute for fast food. Because the cashews are rich in fat, the hungry stomach satiates and the strange sounds in the abdomen are silenced effectively and quickly. If eating cashew in the raw state overwhelms you over time, try cashew butter. Coated on any type of pastry, you can consume it in the morning, in the evening, at ten or olovrant. You can even use it as part of your protein drinks or as a raw material for various sweet and savory recipes. How you use cashew nut butter in the kitchen is up to you.

Effects of cashews on health

  • they reduce the risk of gallstones and help fight bad LDL cholesterol
  • minerals and fatty acids, which are rich in cashew, promote weight loss. Cashew nuts contain a large amount of fat, which enriches the saturation of foods

  • high levels of calcium, magnesium and potassium prevent bone demineralization. 1/4 cup of cashew provides more than 12% of the recommended daily dose of vitamin K, which protects bones from fractures or osteoporosis

Hazelnuts

Hazelnuts are an excellent dietary supplement for diabetics, support healthy brain function, reduce the risk of prostate cancer and increase resistance to stress. Archaeological fossils from prehistoric times have determined the Asian origin of hazelnuts. People most often know hazelnuts as part of Nutella, which, let’s face it, has little to do with healthy eating. Even a 30 gram amount of hazelnuts provides 9% of the total daily energy intake.

In addition to the raw state, you can consume roasted hazelnuts, in the form of a paste or as an ingredient in healthy meals. If you do not mind the increased sugar content, enjoy nut spreads and butters. Oil is also pressed from hazelnuts, which is widely used in the kitchen. For example, as a salad dressing.
